Rubin authored an article titled Thinking sex: notes for a radical theory of the politics of sexuality, which forms the first chapter in the book titled The lesbian and gay studies reader. Rubin argues that the issues of sexuality are becoming very critical in the twenty-first century. Many authors are seeking to pursue the definition and understanding of sexuality as well as the internal politics, modes of operation, and inequities that define sexuality. There is a salient need to understand the modern concepts of sexuality. The author explores some of the legal regulations of sexuality. Since the nineteenth century, societies have had sex laws such as the anti-obscenity law in the United States in 1873. Sex laws continued to emerge throughout the twentieth century. However, the twenty-first century has seen emerging views of sexuality that have led to controversies concerning some of the existing sex laws (Abelove, Barale, ‎and Halperin 2). The article gives attention to the issue of pornography. Specifically, there is an in-depth discussion of child pornography, as well as how it compromises the safety of children and is likely to introduce them to harmful habits. There are also laws that limit the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

Sexual stratification refers to the existing positional differences between men and women in a society based on gender.

Finally, the concept of Demonology is evident in the article because society associates immoral individuals to be under the influence of demons.
