Role of Social Media Platforms in Healthcare Interventions Introduction Recent trends in healthcare sector have shown that social media, web and mobile application technologies have continued to be sued in healthcare-related concerns while ensuring to propel the aspect of patient-related centred care. There have been extensive advancements made in the recent past to ascertain the manner for which such social sites s Facebook can be used as patients’ self-management tools that aid in their recovery process. The focus of this paper is on examining the role social media sites like Facebook; Twitter and Instagram play in healthcare related interventions as self-management and close monitoring tools in the current healthcare environments. Summary of “Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment” (2015) This article provides a distinct set of information in regards to the chances provided by mobile applications and social sites and other pertinent new technologies in the collection of large-scale form of longitudinal datasets thereby improving chances of close-monitoring of young psychotic individuals posting early signs of the disease. according to “Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment” (2015, 345-346), online social media is the new shift for conducting different interventions and concerns related to psychosis especially since it can be adopted to counteract aspects related to social isolation and disadvantage; both forming critical components for developing psychosis and failed symptomatic and functional results; propel engagement within the overall online intervention- which has been a fundamental restriction on online interventions and, also as a model for improving the uptake and acquisition of therapeutic strategies. In essence, the article further notes that the underlying incorporation of online social media and evidence-focused interventions generate into therapeutic mechanisms for which the participants can effectively and confidently engage in self-disclosure; assume positive interpersonal risks and, also attain as well as widen their coping skills through encouragement and validation from both the practitioners and other patients (“Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment”, 2015). To make sure that efficient online interventions are formulated and implemented, the article notes that a high quality intervention that is relevant, engaging and effective in nature should be designed. It recommends that the developmental stage should focus on a given set of fairly-well laid out procedures of user-centred designs. In the future, the article notes that the design development should be focused on coming up with informed set of usage data as well as participatory feedback (“Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment”, 2015). Certainly, it also suggests that this process should adopt a robust innovation, testable theoretical approach of engagement as well as novel linkages of multi-disciplinary experts and designers. Summary of Denecke, K. et al. (N.d) This article posits that social media, web and distinct mobile applications have continued to find their way into the healthcare setting and especially in supporting aspects related to patient-centred care. It affirms that through these technological features and advancements patients majorly benefit from disease self-management tools, communication and contact to other patients as well as close monitoring from qualified healthcare personnel (Denecke, K. et al, N.d). Evidently, it is posited that both drug efficiency and recruited patients for different clinical studies are accessed through the technology. Considering the degree of communication barricades in social media platforms, restricted privacy and security challenges, result to extensive issues from a distinct ethical point of view (Denecke, K. et al, n.d). In fact, the entire article discusses the notable ethical challenges that might arise whenever exploiting the essence of social media within a given healthcare setting. The article conducts a literature review that aims to collect ethical issues for purposes of gathering information needed for efficient patient-centred care. The research study conducted ascertains that aspects related to confidence and privacy issues need to be carefully considered whenever applying such technologies as social media websites in healthcare information accessibility processess. It notes that the patient-physician form of relationship can be exploited and thereby fail due to the new information gain (Denecke, K. et al, N.d). This is certainly so whenever information of a given healthcare provider as well as the patient are accessible through the internet. To make sure that this does not happen, the article suggests that physicians should make efforts to restrict contacts that exist between private and profession parties involved. Going by this suggestion, the article further notes that the process involved with the immediate exploitation of medical-based healthcare applications certainly needs a unique depiction of different roles and responsibilities. Therefore, as healthcare institutions take strides to improve on patient-physician engagement; they should make effort to preserve aspects related to privacy and confidentiality of the immediate online clients in order to avoid possible ethical-related conflicts. Evaluation of “Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment” (2015) Criteria Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment” (2015) Denecke, K. et al.( N.d) Relevance It is relevant to the topic since it provides pertinent information in relation how mobile-based technologies can be used to improve psychosis evaluation and treatment. It is also relevant since it seeks to establish the best ways for which social sites can be used effectively without any form of ethical conflict. Reliability It is reliable to the topic. It is also reliable Accuracy Provides accurate information in relation to social media usage in healthcare setting Fails to provide accurate information since it focuses on matters related to privacy and confidence when accessing online healthcare Lack of bias It is not biased It is not biased. Completeness Not complete Complete Up to date It is up to-date Date not provided Comparison Table: Figure 1 As can be seen in Figure 1 above, the major strengths of the article rests with the fact that it is relevant to the topic under study since it provides pertinent information in relation how mobile-based technologies can be used to improve psychosis evaluation and treatment; it is accurate in terms of data provided; reliable and up-to-date. However, its major undoing rests with the fact that that is not complete. It does not provide a provision for future development of the topic and does not even avail pertinent information on the authors that were engaged in the formulation of the journal article. It just mentions areas that requires high expertise when coming up with efficient technologies way of reaching patients but does not recommend exactly how this should be done. Evaluation of Denecke, K. et al. (N.d) As can be seen from Figure 1 above, the article is reliable since it seeks to establish the best ways for which social sites can be used effectively without any form of ethical conflict. It is complete and unbiased. The article is however reliable since it includes a study analysis that uses quantitative data to interpret results on how ethical the social sites can be transformed to meet the needs for which they were initially intended for. However, it is not up-to-date since no year of publication is given and, also it does not provide accurate information in relation to how social media sites are used in improving patient-care and engage them with other contacts suffering from similar illnesses. Conclusion To sum up, I think the two articles will be useful in the research paper. The article: “Online Social Media: New Data, New Horizons in Psychosis Treatment” (2015) will be used to show how online media can be used to evaluate and provide treatment for psychosis diseases amongst the youth. Consequently, the article by Denecke, K. et al, (N.d) will be useful for the entire research to show how online technologies can be used effectively while adhering to the fundamental aspect of privacy and confidence in a patient-physician form of relationship.
