Religion is one of the most integral parts of human life. Different religions follow different sets of beliefs and traditions. It was believed that with the advancement of technology and science, man’s faith in God will fade. On the contrary, contemporary people are becoming more and more interested in the essence of religion and the mysteries of ancient civilizations. Different aspects of religion like holistic healing, spirituality, miracles, meditation, astrology and yoga, are gaining immense popularity in western countries. It has been scientifically proved that religious practices like prayer, ‘faith in God’ and meditations have the power to heal all sorts of diseases. Hence, people have become more interested in the rituals, traditions and beliefs of different religions. People have understood that despite of being ancient and primal in nature, the traditional aspects of religions have immense power. The contemporary man has brought alive the religious rituals and esoteric movements which were practiced in the ancient times. This has led to the development of esoteric movements in the western countries. I desire to study religion as I know that religious movements are playing a major role in the evolution of human beings. Religion has become one of the most powerful aspects of humanity. Hence, I intend to go in depth of different religions by opting for Religious Studies Program at the University of Amsterdam.
Moreover, the guidance of immensely experienced senior lecturers like Sipco J. Vellenga and Wouter J. Hanegraaff will help me not only in understanding the historical importance of religion, but also in understanding the mysteries, rituals and traditions involved in healing practices in European countries. I assure that if given an opportunity, I will bring to the program my knowledge of history and a burning desire to understand what religion really is and why it plays such an important role in human being’s life.
