Addressing a Situation I would use consultative decision-making process. Since all the employees are at stake as I am worried about their pocketbooks and their future with the company, hence it is important to make them a part of the decision-making process. I have to slash my budget without resorting to pay cuts, overtime reductions, and reduced work schedules; and, have to take such other measures that can affect my team members’ morale and salaries. So, it is not only me who is at stake, but all team members are the stakeholders. So, it becomes significantly important for me to take the views and ideas of all the members involved so that they may be able to share their feelings and any special ideas that may help me making a good decision that it in the favor of all people involved.
I chose the consultative decision-making since it values the standpoints of all stakeholders involved. If the team leader makes the decision without consulting the stakeholders or the team members, then the decision may not be very reliable and favorable for all. I would not have chosen this particular type of decision-making if it was only me who was at stake. Consultative decision-making becomes important when the decision to be made affects more than one people. Although the decision-maker is single- the team leader, but input is taken from every member. It is important to give consideration to stakeholder concerns, and is also important to make them feel valued and respected, so that the decision made is welcomed rather than resisted.
