Housewife to Career Introduction A good number of women across the globe are ask themselves whether it is possible for them to have a big career, full time job while at the same time having children, husband and the house chores to attend to. They have a feeling that they need to choose between either being a house wife characterized having a husband, children and attending to the demands of a house or being a career women characterized by big career and full time job. There are many cases of women who have ditched their careers on grounds that their house demands and cores needed them most. Furthermore, there are a good number of women who have sacrificed their academic professions for their homes. On the other hand, many housewives are in a number of occasions in bitter state more especially when they recall the moments when they were in college. Many of them went to college to get than just a bachelors degree. They made many sacrifices including relationships and friends for so as to have a career. They dreamt of having a big career and being influential in the society than being mere housewives. In these modern days, there are a rising number of women who are of the view that it is better for them to be career women rather than being housewives. According to me, this change in trend has elevated the woman status. This way, the society has recognized the impact and importance of women in both policy making and economic development. The world we live in today is competitive and demanding economically. As a result, there is little time for individuals to meet all we require. Thus we must sometimes make sacrifices just to meet our goals demands. Some of these sacrifices made by women are for their children and in other occasion these children are sacrificed so as to make a living in this challenging world. This paper makes analyses to show whether the modern day society supports women to have big careers instead of just being housewives. Body Jessica Ballard in her article, “The Changing Role of Married Woman from Housewife to Career Woman” a mother of a groomsman purely hated her son’s wife to be. She developed this hatred on a mere ground that this daughter in-law to be was a Caucasian girl while her son was an African America. Apart from this mother’s racist view, the girl had refused to learn how to cook which was contrary to the mother’s perception of a wife. This difference in perception was as a result of the generation difference between mother and the Caucasian girl. The young girl never cooked for the family and her husband after she got married. This further increased her mother’s in-law hatred towards her (Burtis). There is a lot of disgust and confusions that hatred can be developed on such grounds. It is with no doubt that age difference plays a big role in this particular situation. In this case, the question is why should refusing to learn how to cook matter if the Caucasian girl does not fancy cooking? After the Caucasian girl and the African American boy got married, the now mother in-law seems to be thinking that her son’s wife was not actually performing her duties fully. According to this woman, her son’s wife by refusing to have meals readily cooked and serve his son every time he gets home was not doing what is expected of a woman. The Caucasian girl worked long hours and she could not in many occasion be able to physically work and achieve her mother’s in-law demands. The Caucasian girl was able to overcome these pressures as she was well informed of the fact marriages are supposed to be 50/50 (Burtis). It is interesting to learn from Teresa Lemmon’s article, “The Career Housewife” that women were once upon a time forced to be housewives. Women then had no freedom to develop their abilities beyond their homes. During these days, women were forced to be homemakers irrespective of whether they liked or not. Being a housewife is a respectable move and all housewives deserve a thumb up. Nonetheless, this should be wholly a voluntary undertaking. Wives should be fully allowed to do other things if they choose to. Since our societies was founded on the grounds that wives are entitled to nothing more house activities and family chores, there has been a lot of resistance towards achieving this women’s freedom. The marriage structure at one point in time was set in stone and this specifically allowed man to do one thing while the rest was to be done by a woman. Back then; this was applicable and practical since things were that day. The fight to offset this imbalance in men and women’s role allowed for emergence of career women in the society. Women or are independent and more productive economically (Burtis). In the article, How to Find Home Based Worked for Housewives, a lot of importance is attached to working at home. Those housewives and househusband who work at home are advised to consider their selves lucky. There are so many job opportunities as well as business opportunities for housewives. Housewives can attend to these businesses and jobs while they are at home. According to the article, Real Housewife, Career is not necessarily working away from home as it is perceived by many. There cases of successful career and business professional women who work from their homes. Many career women should try practicing their career from their homes and sure enough they will find this interesting and an excellent idea as well. “How Much Is A Housewife’s Job Worth” article by Dolphin authors and publishers, on the contrary puts a lot of emphasis on the need to give accolade to all women who have in one way or another been able to sacrifice their professions and careers so as to fully attend to their home’s demands. Even without the credit, such women will still provide a valuable service to their homes with a lot of love and dedication. It is very common to encounter people asking what a housewife particular do. The article, “Housewives make better Mothers than Career Women “categorically assert that, women do all the household chores traditionally expected of them. These chores are perceived to be simple and easy to do and thus, they can be done by anybody. But on a closer look, a typical routine followed by a housewife reveals that these household chores are not actually simple and easy. It is a fact that this typical housewife’s routine usually starts at 6.00m on a daily basis. This is the time when a housewife is supposed to get up so as to prepare breakfast for her children. This is followed by her driving or seeing off her children to school. She is as well supposed to go shopping daily so as to save family from taking stale vegetables and frozen meat. She is further supposed to wash and dry every one’s clothes in the family. Despite the fact that some housewives get a helping hand from servants in doing these chores, the basic outline of what a housewife does on a daily basis indicate that the household chores entails more than what it meets the eye. In many cases, housewives are overworked without anyone’s notice. Therefore, there is need to ensure that all household chores are shared equally by both the husband and the wife. This division of roles will ensure that no one in the marriage partnership is overworked in any way. Furthermore, the house wife will have some time for leisure as well as development of her career. Laura in her article on women versus career, many ladies when they meet their right man, they start putting all their career dreams on the shelf. They would just stop working and start to stay at home in the name of caring for their husband and their children to come. This way, they put all the financial need in their husband’s shoulders. There are many people who consider this as a quality life but I completely disagree. This should only be viewed as being okay if and only if the person in question has always been of the aspiration to run the house and have a family. For anyone else of different aspiration, this is absurd and discouraging. Those ladies who aspire to have a husband and family as well as career should never twist their desires and accept to just be housewives. This will eventually lead to lack of happiness in the marriage life which is a perfect recipe for having failing marriages and divorce (Burtis). Conclusion Undoubtedly, there are a lot of benefits arising from increased close mother child relationship as it is in the case of mothers who are just housewives. Attachment studies however, reveal that the best mother child relationship arises when a child accepts that the mother will return after she left. This is the case with career women. Therefore, career women will be in better position in developing mother child relationship as compared to housewife. Thus career women are good mothers as well. Career women in these modern days’ economic tough times should be highly appreciated. Sharing economic and financial burdens by the husband and a wife is very vital in overcoming the raging economic challenges. This financial challenge sharing is of great deal in keeping families together as no one in the marriage institution will feel overburden economically by his or her partner. Moving from housewife to a career woman is generally important and beneficial in both the family and societal level. Therefore, there is need for women to strive into having these changes. Institutions, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, and individuals should be supportive of this move so as to ensure its beneficial success (Burtis).
