A competitive advantage is crucial to a business because it is central to the growth as well as the prosperity of an organization. Bearing in mind that the traditional methods of competitive advantage may not apply to the modern business sector, market segmentation, and appropriate targeting can also act as a competitive advantage. However, to take advantage of this, the organization ought to devise reliable ways of undertaking market research, which requires the right employees who can only be acquired through recruitment and selection. Although the organization may decide to undertake internal recruitment, it is usually recommended to undertake external recruitment through advertisements, referrals, and the Internet. This provides a new set of skills for the organization that can be used to capitalize on market segmentation and targeting. Despite this advantage, this also requires additional resources that mean additional expenses that organizations take lengthy discussions to deal with.

To accomplish the required outcomes, the organization ought to understand the impact that rational decision-making can have toward the realization of this quest. Rational decision-making incorporates several steps that begin with the identification of a problem, formulation of alternatives, implementation of the most appropriate solution, and evaluation of the impact that the implemented solution has. In most cases, this process favors logic, analysis as well as objectivity. Since marketing is an issue in the organization, as indicated in the case study, this provides information on the problem to be resolved while the next step would involve several alternatives that may include increasing supply or even identifying areas to supply specific products. This is because the research would provide information concerning customer preferences, which is very important to organizations. Once the most appropriate step has been agreed upon and implemented, the final step is very important because it helps people in evaluating the success of a project. Having understood this, it would be easier for the organization to come up with alternatives to the market issue and address the main problem. If the organization would cater to these, then the outcomes would be optimum.

It is of great importance to acknowledge the role that the employees play in the organization although some bosses take them as machine parts. According to the studies of leadership at Michigan University, leadership behavior has two dimensions. These include employee orientation and orientation toward production. Both of these orientations are opposite. Employee orientation means that the organization or the leader is mostly concerned with the establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships. This implies that the leaders want to have a personal interest and connection between themselves and the employees.

This is one of the best ways of improving the motivation exhibited by employees. In addition, job satisfaction also benefits from this process. Relationships help through the establishment of a healthy working place that is characterized by friendliness in the organization. The other factor inherent in the study of leadership includes orientation towards products. The managers who use this are mainly concerned with the quality of the products. Such employers can produce high-quality products although the work environment is not healthy as should be. Due to the de-motivation that follows this theory, the leaders end up realizing low-quality products as compared to the workforce that is motivated through leadership theories.

Motivated employees do not require to be pushed to do their duties. Job satisfaction can only be seen to be favored by the orientation of employees because of the friendliness that comes with it.
Moreover, for this to be successful in an organization, it must be followed by the appropriate model of communication. One of the most effective modes of communication includes the transactional model of communication. This model asserts that communication is not one way but requires the participation of all individuals involved. This can be said to be similar to the case of both upward and downward methods of communication where the leader has the responsibility of answering employee emails.

The transactional model of leadership holds that communication is an ongoing and continuously changing process. This communication evolves as changes take place within the environment that the business operates. In the transactional model of communication, the name transactional is used to mean a process that has both the sender and the receiver. When applying this in the organization, coordination improves because an employee can ask any question and get answers from the management. This is not the case that is being exhibited in the case study. The condition for transactional leadership is only fulfilled when two parties are conversing.

According to the Contingency leadership model, the relationship between the style of leadership chosen by the leader and the degree of the situation are important in establishing effective group performance. If a leader has to use this model, they must first establish a leadership style that they expect to use in leading the individuals. This is very important because it helps organizations in selecting leaders for diverse tasks. This implies that optimal output can be realized when the contingency model is applied in business. The general idea behind the contingency model of leadership is the relationship between the styles to be applied in leading in the specified situation.
