Event management to reach a strategic goal Introduction Organization is a difficult organism, which is characterized with a broad range of elements, patterns and principles. Organization is a combination of people and institutions that create some synergetic effect together. Of course, existence of any organization has some goals and strategic missions. There are a lot of instruments to reach such strategic objectives. Event management is one of them. Usage of event management to reach a strategic goal of an organization is going to be the main subject of this research paper. It is going to be shown how organization of events is going to help an organization to reach particular goals of its performance. Event management as an instrument to reach strategic goals of an organization is a part of the so-called organizational behavior. That is why it sounds reasonable to say a few words about organizational behavior. Event management essence Any organization is a difficult mechanism, where production processes, legal schemes, the overall tasks etc are combined with people’s emotions and interests. This organism evolves and lives according to specific principles and laws. To begin with we would like to provide a definition of the term organizational behavior. In our opinion, one of the most appropriate definitions is the following. “Organizational behavior is a set of actions and attitudes of individuals and groups toward one another and toward the organization as a whole, and its effect on the organization's functioning and performance” (Organizational Behavior Definition). Simply speaking, organizational behavior is the term that describes relations inside an organization – relations between employees, between employees and managers, relations between managers etc. Also, it would be reasonable to add relations of an organization with all the stakeholders and also partners and even competitors. Learning this subject, we have to account two problems. First of all, we have to explore organizational behavior, its factors and perceptions. On the other hand, it is important to define the ways in which organizational behavior may influence an organization’s performance. Let us define the factors that may influence organizational behavior. Among them the following ones can be pointed out: The size of an organization. The bigger an organization is – the greatest is the number of its employees. It means that relations between them have a lot of levels and can be really complicated. It is a significant challenge to create an appropriate organizational behavior in a big organization; The results of an organization’s performance. Bad results create negative corporate climate and environment. Respectively people are not in a good mood to think about some principles of appropriate behavior; Organizational structure. One of the best definitions of this term is the following. “Organizational structure is the framework, typically hierarchical, within which an organization arranges its lines of authority and communications, and allocates rights and duties. Organizational structure determines the manner and extent to which roles, power, and responsibilities are delegated, controlled, and coordinated, and how information flows between levels of management” (Organizational Structure Definition). Quality of organizational behavior depends on a type and quality of organizational structure. In fact, better organizational structure means better organizational behavior; Industry and a type of performance/business. There are kinds of performance, where employees experience significant pressure and event stresses. That is why it is quite difficult to talk about some culture of organizational behavior in such conditions; The degree of professionalism of employees. We believe that higher professionalism and higher degree of education mean better quality of organizational behavior. People know the required values, respect them and try to implement on practice; Active, performance of an organization for the purpose of creating required quality of organizational behavior. As we know organizational behavior may be created via trainings, motivation and even punishment sometimes. Any organization should accept proactive position in this context. Therefore, we defined the main factors that may influence organizational behavior. Now it is time to talk how organizational behavior is able to influence the overall performance of an organization. We are convinced that there is no need to explain that low degree of organizational behavior negatively influences the overall performance of a company or some other organization. That is why it is important to provide the channels via which organizational behavior may influence performance. In our opinion, among these channels the following ones can be pointed out: Productivity – the low degree of organizational behavior lowers productivity of employees; Corporate climate – inappropriate organizational behavior spoils corporate climate inside an organizations. Spoiled relations lower productivity once again; Inappropriate organizational behavior damages informational flows inside a company. Because of lack and low quality of information, wrong decisions are made and the whole organization suffers; There are usually conflicts between the managers, shareholders and employees. As a result an organization cannot move to a common goal. This factor slows down development of an organization; Finally, bad relations and communications with the external stakeholders of an organization spoil company’s corporate image and brand. It is equal to death in the world of tough and aggressive competition. To conclude with this particular part of our research paper, we would like to say the following. Organizational behavior is behavior that is moved by some particular principles and values that are shared by all the members of an organization in order to maintain good relations and move towards a common goal. Thus, we are talking about some system of values and principles. These values should be percepted by all the employees, attributed to their work and taken as a basis for decisions. When all the requirements are met, we ca talk about job satisfaction of every separate employee and overall success for a company. Thus, the role of organizational behavior just cannot be overestimated in successful performance of a company. Generally, it is an obvious fact that organizational behavior is realized by people. On the other hand, leadership is an important factor that may organize people. Below we will talk about leadership, its types and roles for an organization. Now it is time to move on to the direct analysis of the role of event management in performance of an organization. The best way to explain the role of event management is to analyze experience of the company that specializes in event management. Usage of event management in business We would like to explain the role of event management in reaching strategic objectives of an organization on the example of FIFA and Olympics. FIFA and Olympic Committee are the leading sports organizations in the world. They unite people from the whole world, and almost every country is presented in their structure. Olympic Games and World Soccer Championship are probably the most popular sport events in the world. They happen once in four years and attract millions of people from every corner of the world. Like any other organization, these ones have some particular objectives. In fact, these objective are related no only to sport. Their strategic objectives can be found in some official documents of these organizations. Mission of FIFA can be described with the following words. “Played by millions around the world, football is the heart and soul of FIFA and as the guardian of this most cherished game, we have a great responsibility. This responsibility does not end with organising the FIFA World Cup™ and the various other world cup competitions; it extends to safeguarding the Laws of the Game, developing the game around the world and to bringing hope to those less privileged. This is what we believe is the very essence of fair play and solidarity” (FIFA Mission). Simply speaking, FIFA tends to organize better environment in the world. It desires to make people more happy and united. Football is only an instrument in reaching such a honorable strategic goal. For example, everyone knows that FIFA fights against racism not only in football, but in life in general. This goal is planned to be reached via promotion in football. It is believed that opinion of famous people is sufficient argument for all the people around the whole world. In fact, the Olympic Committee and Olympic Games have almost the same strategic objectives. This movement tends to unite people from the whole world around some positive common values. Once again, this strategic objective should be reached via sport and sports event. Therefore, it can be concluded that such sports organizations as FIFA and Olympic Committee have strategic goals, which are related to making a better world. However, these goals are planned to be reached via promotion in sport and sport events. Of course, the biggest sport events, organized by the mentioned institutions are FIFA World Chempionship and Olympic games. Organization of such events requires significant financial and other resources. It has several main goals. First of all, we should not forget about sport principle. The events are held in order to discover the strongest sportsmen in the world. Second of all, such events are significant business projects. That is why they have to return invested money and even bring some social and economic profits. Finally, such events have important social and political goals. For example, Olympic Games are considered to be a symbol of peace. All the wars have been stopped during the Olympic Games. Nowadays, it is considered as a strong political sign to miss the Games. It is believed to be a kind of a political protest. It is an interesting fact that even such simple event as passing the Olympic torch also has a great symbolic meaning and attracts a lot of people. This opinion can be proved by the following words. “The Olympic torch route also follows a similar trend, attracting people out onto the streets and into parks to celebrate the passing of the torch. Many of these people will be drawn to local restaurants, pubs and shops, improving the economy of the towns involved. The building of the infrastructure for the Olympics has generated around 30,000 jobs which wouldn’t otherwise have been available. With these workers paying tax on their earnings, it further increases the government’s revenues. All of this increase in business and jobs results in an improved economy and an increase in taxes payable to the government. With this in mind, Britain should benefit financially from the increase in visitors” (Why Are The Olympics Important?). On the other hand, we can talk about social role of football and related events for a long time. For many people football is very serious. Known even a case where because of losing in 1969 there was a six-day match of the military conflict between El Salvador and Honduras, killing two thousand people. (He, by the way, and went down in history under the name of "football war".) Football is intensively watched by about one third of men, that is, every third man looks quite a lot of football matches. In fact, football - it's not just a sport - it is a spectacle. To this attitude not only as a sporting event that is associated with exercise - it shows this view. And attitude soon as the play can be. This event, which is expected and, in fact, is very popular. When we talk about the social role of football, we will immediately hurdle immediately in politics. The very same sport in its competitive part is that the population will react to victory. But in football one future - aesthetic . Not every elite catcher can be massive. Football is very difficult game. It is, unfortunately, largely depends on the kind of aggression that the public sees in the sport.
