Differences and similarities between King Saul and Creon in Antigone Similarities and Difference in Character between King Saul and Creon in AntigoneThe first similarity between King Saul and Creon in Antigone is that the two personalities were leaders in their regions. Another similarity between the two is that they were authoritative in nature. King Saul orders the Israelites not to eat any food during their war against the Philistines. Creon too, ordered for Antigone’s death. The difference between King Saul and Creon in Antigone is that King Saul was easy to convince unlike Creon who was not easy to convince by his people.

King Saul who orders for his son’s death (Jonathan), after Jonathan violates his father’s order not to eat anything until they defeat the Philistines, the Israelites defend Jonathan arguing that he has given so much dedication to defend Israel. The Israelites say, “Must Jonathan be killed? He has fought really hard to defend the Israelites from its enemies” (1st Samuel 14:24). King Saul finally gives in to this plea. Creon on the other hand, is not convinced by his people to reconsider the death of Antigone.

Similarities and Differences in action between King Saul and Creon in AntigoneSimilaritiesThey Were Both Merciless Given That They Ordered For The Persecution Of Innocent People. In First Samuel 18:3, The Bible Says, “Saul Has Slain His Thousands And David His Tens Of Thousands”. Another Similarity In Action Is That The Two At One Time Participate In Idol Worship. Lastly, The Two Kings Repent Their Actions At One Time After Realizing Their Mistakes. 1st Samuel 18:7 Says That, “Saul Was Afraid Of David, Because The Lord Was With Him And Not With Saul”.

DifferencesAt one time, Saul quits idol worshipping but Creon do not. He warns Tiresias and Antigone from telling him to repent his sins. The second difference in action is that Saul puts so much thought in what he does and even consult other people about the actions to take but Creon does not reconsider his decisions. Lastly, Creon takes part in human sacrifice but King Soul does not (Anderson, 62).Works CitedAnderson, Jan. World Literature Classics for Christians, third ed.
