Critic on Child Abuse Advert Introduction Child abuse could be defined as any form of maltreatment by an adult towards a child. Most people think that child abuse is any physical violence but that’s not the case, it could take many forms including emotional or psychological abuse, physical neglect, sexual abuse, and physical abuse. Some of the reason why somebody could abuse a child include; a desire to be powerful, the eager to exercise authority toward kids and taking revenge because they might have experienced the same when they were young, this is like payback and this person could do anything to make sure they are filling better. Child abuse is not encouraged by any state and should be taken seriously as it comes with a heavy burden, abused kids live all their lives with the scar of abuse and which reshapes their thinking negatively thus eventually affecting them in their future lives. These kids are the future of tomorrow and everybody should take the responsibility of safeguarding their welfare. Today, governments have taken the initiative to curb the situation and this should be the responsibility of everyone, any sign of child abuse should be reported to the concerned authorities so that measures should be taken and law uphold. Let’s face the reality and say no to child abuse. Part One Today studies show that one among four girls and one among eight boys are abused before the ages of 18 and that approximately one in twenty kids are physically abused each year. It is also not very easy to recognize when a child has been abused, most abused children are often shy to complain because they are afraid that they might be blamed or that no one might believe them. To make the matter worse, the person who abuses them could be a parent or a guardian whom they love most hence becomes very difficult for these kids to espouse them. This, therefore, calls for somebody to speak on behalf of these kids and that’s exactly what the ad is trying to do, speaking for the child (BECKETT, H., & PEARCE, J. J. (2018). The context of the advert Regarding the context of the ad, I absolutely support the advert. Just like I have stated on the above paragraph, most of these kids are abused by those who are closest to them and therefore it becomes very difficult for the abused kids to expose them. These kids will live all their lives with this secret in their hearts and it will have a negative effect in their future lives. Most guardians/parent as well never want to face this reality and they will tend to shy away from this topic hence leaving these kids with psychological torture. What the ad is trying to do is absolutely perfect as it is trying to speak/give a speech on behalf of these kids. The ad cum copy is a tool that will reshape the thinking of people when it comes to matters of dealing with child abuse, the ad is also talking on behalf of the vulnerable in the society. When people accept the reality, kids will have a voice to speak out. There will be a significant reduction to child abuse when the issue is taken seriously and the first step to curbing the matter is by starting campaigns like this one to fight against child abuse. The ad is straightforward, it is against child sexual exploitation and that it is trying to give a voice to the abused kids. Most of these kids when putting in this situation, they might not have a choice but we do. Today those who abuse kids are those very closest to them hence becoming very difficult for one to recognize what happens to them because of fear. The NWG Network is taking measures to make sure that children welfare is put into consideration and that no one exploits these kids in any way, be it sexual, physical or emotional (HALLETT, S. (2017). The ad is also trying to raise funds either to fund the campaign or for use in the same. The ad is trying to make a warning to those who think they can just exploit kids sexually and get away with it, this message is mainly directed to the men who want to fulfill their sexual fantasies’ on kids. The culture of sexual harassment to young teenager within different ethnic communities because that is their way of life. Today everything has changed and people must live civilized and that those outdated cultures of sexual harassment must stop at all cost because it is regarded as a child abuse and it is illegal. Part Two The angle of the advert The ad is being used to campaign against child abuse, the ad is creating awareness to the world that we should take measures and safeguard the young from any form of child abuse. The ad is trying to pass a very important message to the audience, sexual exploitation must be stopped at all cost no matter the cost as it destroys our children. As parents/guardians, we do have a choice to make a difference in the lives of our children. Let’s take the responsibility to safeguard the welfare of our kids even if they don’t have a choice. According to the ad, we can see that the ad is trying to sell an awareness to the audience, the targeted audience here are the gangs, celebrities, religious leaders and peers. The product here is the message being passed to the target audience. The campaign against sexual exploitation is a responsibility that everyone should participate in, we all want the best for our kids and no one will ever accept his/her child to exploited in any way, therefore, a simple donation to the NWG Network is the first measure to safeguarding the future generation. This money is mainly used to run the organization. One unique feature of this campaign is that it is a one-day event but its effect should be within us every day of our lives. It is also an international event that cuts across the world hence making it even bigger. This special day is celebrated by everyone in the world hence making the advert outstanding and participatory. The message being passed by the ad is directed to everyone, parent/guardian, affiliate gang, religious leaders and celebrities who take advantage of the young in one way or the other. The ad is also very specific as it directs its message to men out there who take advantage of these innocent creatures. Despite acting as a warning to the target audience, it is also acting as an educational tool to the audience as it reminds us that sexual exploitation toward the young is bad/illegal and that we should take the responsibility of safeguarding our kids instead of abusing them. The WNG Network is a charitable organization formed in the UK that works on the issues of child abuse and exploitation. Their main aim is to help in the eradication of sexual abuse and exploitation of the vulnerable. They also aim at providing a network for projects or organization concerned with the sexual exploitation. Thanks to NWG Network, an organization that has taken the mandate to push for campaigns against child abuse. This organization has taken the responsibility of many parents/guardians who fear to talk their kids on issues to do with sexual harassment. The organization has taken measures of giving a voice to the of children who can’t speak up for themselves. The organization together with the human rights organization have also partnered to foster for the safeguarding of children’s rights. The organization also conducts events from time to time to educate its audience of the importance of safeguarding kid’s welfare. Features of the advert From the above advert, we can see that the ad is using “child abuse campaign” as the headlines to advertise itself. It also uses a slogan to stress on the importance of the campaign, for our case the ad is using “speak out against child sexual exploitation” as the slogan. The ad also shows a palm hand logo that signifies a helping hand for the young and vulnerable. The image in the ad shows a man’s hand forcefully shutting a kids mouth to signify how children are abused and their mouths shut never to speak of it. This is the reason why the WNG Network is campaigning against sexual exploitation towards kids to give them a voice to express themselves or rather talk on their behalf. The ad also has a link which you can follow in case you want to know more about the organization as well as making a donation to support the campaign. The ad is painted black at the background to give a clear view of the image’s and texts, the texts in white have been used to rhyme with a black background and the pinks texts have been used to give a stress on the selected words. The other text with black color has been also used to give it a feeling of volunteering. The ad also passes a very important message, it’s not always about the young but us, we are the one who goes for this kids, we are the who exploit them and therefore its upon us to take the mandate of being their caretakers while safeguarding their welfare and not to take advantage of them because we overpower them (CHILDREN. (2001). The NWG Network does its global campaign once in a year specifically 18th of March, the campaign is mainly to create an awareness and at the same time education its audience about safeguarding children’s welfare, the audience here are the street gangs, religious environments, online and to those who are in authority including celebs who interact with this kids on a regular basis. Target audience Today sexual exploitation takes many forms and lately, there has been an introduction of abuse through technology i.e. through social media and cybercrime.; Studies show that only 20-25% of victimized children are taken care of, young people and children living at home can just be as vulnerable. The NWG Network focuses on street gangs, religious environments, online and to those who are in authority including celebs, this is the groups that in one way or the other have control over the young. Evidence shows that sexual exploitation can occur in any environment and in any part of the country. Persons from any age group and social class can take advantage of the vulnerable hence the need for proper care (UNITED NATIONS. (2009). Other factors including lifestyle and personality can promote the Sexual exploitation among the young as poverty being one of the core reasons to child sexual exploitation The campaign against child abuse is between me and you, we all know that becoming a victim to this abuse has devastating effects on our children, their lives and their families. The NWG Networks together with other determined organization that fights against the CSE needs the supports of everyone so that they can give a voice the vulnerable members of our society. Let’s “DONATE” and support our future generation. Together we hold hands in support of the campaign against sexual exploitation. Reference Beckett, H., & Pearce, J. J.
