Effects of War and Terrorism in Visual Media Assessment 1 Part A. Currently, the world is experiencing problems especially those related to security. Despite the implementation of policies guarding human rights and security as well as introduction of new techniques, there are still other countries experiencing war and terrorism. Given that the topic involves sensitive issues, it will be more appropriate to utilize film media in narrating the story. Incorporation of visual media is ideal since the audience will be able to acquire a feel of the extent with which war and terrorism affects people. Given that the story covers a broad issue, it will be a relatively long story of about two-hour plays. The story will be structured in six significant stages, upon which the first will involve the setup followed by the new position involving war and terror. The third stage will involve progress of the condition. This segment will include the various developments that have been made over the recent years in the selected location for the story. The fourth stage will cover complications and higher stakes. At this point, the story will incorporate issues relating on how the various strategies employed to limit these issues became more complicated due to various constraints.Stage five will involve the final push which marks the climax of the story. Stage five takes part anywhere from 0.9 point to the last minutes of the film. Finally, the last stage will involve the aftermath. In order to successfully complete the story, one requires guiding and assistance from relevant personnel including the lecturer who will help in reviewing the entire story while giving comments on respective changes to be made in each section. Since the story focuses on a delicate issue, the tone to be used is a sincere tone. The sincerity within the story would facilitate the narrator to place emphasize on the most significant areas as well as work on the storytelling skills more effectively. Part B. Information for the story will be collected from news websites including ABC, CNN, The Forbes Magazine and BBC. These news stations provide relevant information on war and terrorism as they do have worldwide coverage on such events. Additionally, the information acquired from these sources is reliable and effective for use in story writing. Muhammad is a young man full of ambition and potential in Burundi. He has five younger siblings with whom they live together in a small village together with their parents. One evening, they hear a loud bang from outside followed by several gunshots in the air. Unluckily, his entire was murdered while he was hiding by some men in police uniform. Bounded by the fury and rage within him, he decides to join a group of vigilantes who opt to protect their families through killing other people who killed their families. As years go by, Muhammad climbs up the hierarchy and becomes the chief general of the group. He agrees to marry a young beautiful woman with whom they bore six children. Unfortunately, after arriving back home from a mission in another country, he finds his family killed once again by the same men who killed his parents and siblings. The story ends with Muhammad vowing to avenge the death of his family using more force and severe measures. The story will incorporate the gonzo-style journalism as a stylistic device since it will be more appropriate to include a reporter in giving the incidences in the story systematically. Furthermore, other styles can be used such as the use of alliterative sentences, allusion, metaphor and personification as well as hyperbole. The will help in narration of the film with the aid of motion pictures accompanying the narrator’s words. The film will be structured in form of stages one to six. Muhammad Bashir, is a young Burundian resident of Islamic religion living with his family. He is ambitious, courageous and loves his family very much. However, the downside to his ambitious character is that he would not stop at anything in case he is determined to achieve something. His actions towards terrorism are more driven by the deep love he has for his family and the people around him. Burundi is a country within the African continent. Within the timeline of the story, the country is still developing and most sectors are still underdeveloped. Communities are fighting for the lands as others want to acquire the lands through forceful means. Muhammad attacks foreign lands surrounding his home town that are apparently in the same economic, social and political status. After Muhammad is all grown up and leads the group of armed militia men, the region has distinctively progressed though the changes are minor such as the establishment of new learning institutions. Story points are relative to complexity estimate and in this case, the story is much longer. This translates to a more complex story with a larger set of acceptance of criteria and it is more volatile and vague. Such a level of complexity is appropriate for the intended audience in order to emphasize on the seriousness the story deserves. Assessment 2 Part A. The story has a moral lesson at the end which is a major strength. It reflects on issues involving the modern world and creates an atmosphere of war and terrorism, thereby informing the audience of the scenario. Furthermore, it can be used for teaching and learning purposes in different locations. The story also provides the audience with points of reflection even after the film will be through. Given that the story’s main character is a Muslim might bring about religious implications since most terror attacks in the world are carried out by Muslims. Additionally, the chosen country falls under the third world countries and it may appear as if the story is somehow undermining this group of people and location. The plot is effective as it displays the extent with which a person might change due to the oppression they get from their lives. Additionally, the sequence of events in the plot are in such a manner that the audience might easily understand the story. The idea that the playwright losses his family twice in diverse occasions appears to be monotonous and one occasion could be replaced with another enticing story or event. Muhammad is a strong character in the film as he represents hatred, fear, revenge and love all together. As the main character, his values are well reflected and portrayed in narrating the story. The invaders and his family have been used to extend the narrative and simplify the understanding of the audience. The weakness associated with the characters is that they, especially the playwright lack forgiveness and mercy. They also fail to uphold other values such as prudence, self-regulation, humility and future-mindedness. Styles employed in the story facilitate the narration of the film. Gonzo-style journalism allows the narrator to provide more information regarding the narrative without facing any form of objectivity. Furthermore, other forms of styles employed are necessary in narration of this specific story. However, the use of hyperbole as a stylistic style might go overboard and affect the originality of the story as well as the overuse of the stylistic devices. In the respective dialogues, short sentences and repetition were used in order to emphasize on the most important points. The dialogue also incorporated characters who displayed appropriate facial expressions throughout the narrative, thereby, improving on communication and elaboration of points and facts. Nonetheless, the dialogue lacked appropriate grip on the audience and this interfered with their understanding. Moreover, the challenges involved in the dialogues resulted in lack of concentration among the audience. Part B. From theconstructive criticisms that the film received, several changes will be needed in diverse sections including the construction of the dialogues, selection of stylistic devices as well as the plot. These changes are necessary in the play as they enhance creativity of the narrative as well as in relaying information to the audience. Additionally, the changes made in dialogue help in captivating the audience’s attention, which is a feature of a good narrative. However, it was not necessary to make any changes regarding the plot since the earlier made plot reflects on the originality of the writer. Additionally, repetition made regarding the playwright’s family incidences is applicable even in real life situations, especially in areas experiencing war and terrorism. Therefore, changing the plot of the story was not necessary. A storytelling skill that needs to be worked on is beginning the story with a character that the intended audience can relate to effectively. For instance, most people relate terrorism to the Al Shabab or Al Qaeda militia groups throughout the world or even specific individuals such as the Late Osama Bin Laden. Using such personnel’s at the initialization stages will captivate the audience even further and assist them in relating the story to actual events. In order to improve on such a fallback, one should always remember to incorporate such a technique and also dig in for more past information involving the selected topic for the story. This will help in having a more appropriate and better skill in storytelling. In the past, I have discovered several strengths in my stories including good creativity, better writing, and use of appropriate stylistic devices and incorporation of good storytelling skills. However, I have displayed weaknesses in the omission of certain important storytelling skills such as foreshadowing and use of a character that the crowd can easily relate to in the story. Furthermore, I fail to capture full attention of the audiences I am narrating the story to. In order to make storytelling faster, is to embrace visual imagery such as film or power point slides, which aid in providing visuals for the audience to understand. Furthermore, the visual aids are necessary in reducing the amount of time a narrator takes in explaining since most of them are self-explanatory. Read More
